WHO WE ARE
Artistic Director – Charlotte Greenwood obtained her BA in Sculpture with Honors from the Chelsea College of Art and Design, in 1994. Following her graduation, she re-located to Célas, France, where she participated in group exhibitions and pursued her love for painting.
1996 marked Greenwood’s return to London, where she embarked upon a 12 year long career in Film and TV, working as a Special Effects Artist, in Prosthetic make-up, sculpture and Model making. This period inspired her to continuously reach higher degrees of perfection in her technical ability, and embellish her knowledge of products and processes within the field. She learned about the discipline of Hyper-Realism and the art of illusion, working with some of the most talented artists in the business, on projects such as “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, “James Bond: Die Another Day”,and “Troy”,to name but a few.
In early 2008, Greenwood reached a point where the calling to return to her roots in Fine Art became all consuming and in the summer of 2008, she participated in “Ode Edo”, (The SMASH Gallery, Toronto), her first group show in since 1996. Since then, she has been preparing a new collection of ambitious canvases, examining how the paradoxical dichotomies of the Human Condition inter-relate with one another and exploring the functioning of an urban environment. This far-reaching subject is what inspires her charged and detailed images, dissecting the nature of extremes. Freedom, control, perfection, imperfection, need, greed, life, death, are all themes that are examined in Greenwood’s paintings, which are a representation of how we live in constant flux and sometimes conflict, between them.
